Drafting and Design for EI&C
  • Drafting and Design Support

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) support for Electrical firms, end-users and fabricators. Atlas OT supports designs for AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and E-Plan for your electrical and control panel needs.

Atlas OT supports Electrical Panel and Control projects with in house drafting and design services. Electrical one-lines, panel design, network architectures, loop drawings, power distributions and more.

Paired with our I&C technicians and PLC specialists, we can pick up redlines, design new systems, and perform audits and walk downs of your existing facilities to develop as found drawing packages.

Utilize our team of drafters for staff augmentation your next project. We support electrical contractors, engineering firms, and end-users to ensure your drawing packages are up to date and quality checked with our team of controls and electrical specialists.

Electrical Design Expertise

OT System Integration from Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls. EI&C specification, design, procurement, commissioning and lifecycle support.

Atlas OT is your turnkey automation and controls partner.

Field Experience

Our team includes experienced field technicians who have spent years troubleshooting bad panel designs in the field. Designs are reviewed for practical installation and troubleshooting - not just pretty layout on a 2D drawing.

We can even provide full loop drawings from your Controller cabinet, to marshalling panels, junction boxes, and add instrument details to make field installation simpler than ever.

Programming Knowledge

PLC programming knowledge helps to identify tagging, IO and instrument challenges before they are a problem in the field. Are your analogs 2, 3 or 4 wire devices requiring external power distribution? Are discrete points 120vac, 24vdc, or 24vac? Trust us with your instrument index, and we'll provide quality feedback before commissioning.

Network Expertise

Our Industrial Networking expertise can help architect effective deployment of firewalls, network switches and auxiliary devices as well as remote access considerations. Wireless networks and remote IO too.

Don't forget protocol mismatch - Modbus can mean many things - let our experts confirm RS-422, RS-485, TCP/IP and every other industrial protocol to simplify your design and support.

Brand Agnostic

Phoenix Contact, Allen Bradley, Wago, IDEC - and that's just terminal blocks. Our team can help you with modernizations and replacements for outdated or old standards.

AutoCAD, E-Plan, Solidworks

Our team fields many years of platform experience across AutoCAD, E-Plan, and Solidworks Electrical. We utilize the latest software versions and tools to ensure efficient development of your packages.

Strategic Partnerships

Panel shops, Engineering Firms, End-Users, OEMs, even competitors - we are happy to provide contingent workforce for your project to help offload you during peak times.

What is electrical drafting and design in industrial automation?

Electrical drafting and design is the process of creating detailed technical drawings and schematics for electrical systems, including power distribution, control wiring, instrumentation, and panel layouts. These designs serve as blueprints for fabricating and installing electrical systems in industrial and commercial environments. Atlas OT specializes in integrated designs that align with process controls, PLCs, SCADA, and UL-certified panels.

Why is electrical drafting important for control systems?

Precise electrical drafting ensures that control systems function safely, reliably, and in compliance with industry standards. Accurate drawings eliminate guesswork during fabrication and installation, reduce downtime, and simplify troubleshooting. Atlas OT creates detailed wiring diagrams, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and panel layouts as part of every system integration project. IO Schematics that match loop drawings, PLC wiring layouts, instrumentation design and PLC Programming makes field commissioning much easier.

What Computer Aided Design Software do you use?

We work routinely with AutoCAD Electrical, ePlan and SolidWorks Electrical.

Our designers also work in virtual environments as may be required by your company or IT department.

What standards do electrical design drawings need to follow?

All electrical designs are drafted to meet or exceed:

  • NFPA 70 (NEC) – National Electrical Code

  • NFPA 79 – Electrical standard for industrial machinery

  • UL508A – For control panel fabrication

  • UL698A - For Hazardous Area Location Control Panel Fabrication

  • ISA-5.1 – Instrumentation symbol standards

  • IEEE and IEC standards (as applicable for export projects)
Atlas OT ensures every drawing package includes standardized linework, symbol libraries, and documentation ready for permitting and inspection.

What types of Electrical Drawings does Atlas OT Provide?

Our typical design package for Control Panels and Electrical Panels may include:

  • One-line and three-line diagrams

  • Panel layout drawings

  • Schematic and wiring diagrams

  • I/O lists and device cross-references

  • Network topology drawings

  • Conduit and cable schedules

  • Loop and termination diagrams

  • Bill of Materials (BOM) and wire tags

Can Atlas OT convert paper or pdf drawings to cad or .dwg files?

Yes. Provide us with the photos, pdfs, or whatever native files you may have. Our team can create new cad drawings and will provide you with the native dwg file extensions.

Can you as-built existing electrical panels?
Yes. We specialize in modernizing and redlining legacy drawings—whether from hand sketches, PDFs, or outdated CAD files. Our team can verify field installations, update documentation for compliance, and create as-built drawings post-commissioning.

We can offer field services to draw the as found panels, reverse engineer the control system logic as well as P&IDs to help determine the existing panel wiring. We can also help you update and upgrade your existing electrical equipment.
Who does Atlas OT Work with?

We work with anyone willing to collaborate! Yes, even our competitors!

  • Engineering Firms
  • Facility and Plant Owners
  • General Contractors, Mechanical Contractors, Electrical Contractors
  • Panel Shops
